FALL 2007
My junior design project was to design and build a robot that would perform a specific task. This was accomplished in one semester with a team of five engineering students including myself.
The robot was to complete an obstacle course, climb a hill, retrieve a 3 lbs block of material that laid several inches below the robot in a valley, take that load back down the hill to drop it off and then return the to starting position. The goal was to complete this task but in order to keep things interesting a competition was also at hand and the team with the lowest time won.
Our robot was designed with every detail calculated and accounted for. The robot is pictured on this page and as you can see the design seems complex but the robot could be disassembled and reassembled in less than 15 minutes.
Our design was the lightest out of all the teams and exceeded our expectations during the trials and the competition. Overall the experience taught all of us how to work together and separate the work in order to achieve one unified goal and create something very amazing that none of use felt was possible at first.
